Poison Ivy: “The key with poison ivy is to wash your child’s skin and clothes right away after exposure to remove the plant’s oils. Then, apply a paste made of equal parts water and either baking soda or apple cider vinegar—two natural antiseptics that can help ease inflammation—to the affected areas. When looking for a topical ointment, I try to avoid steroid creams, like cortisone. Instead, try homeopathic Calendula cream The flowers of the Calendula officinalis plant, also known as Garden marigold, have been used topically for generations to heal skin irritations, such as minor burns and scrapes.”

KEEP A FIRST AID KIT WITH YOU
“I suggest keeping a first aid kit in your car and also creating a smaller kit that your keep in your purse. You never know when your child might get hurt and you want to have everything you need to make him or her feel better. I recommend including the Calendula Cream in your first aid kits (there is also an ointment if you hate creams). It’s great for cuts, scrapes, chafing, minor burns, and sunburn. So basically this stuff should be your best friend this summer. Keep some around at all times. That’s what I plan to do. And if your kids are super sensitive to insect bites like mine are, keeping Calendula Gel around is a must.”

“I really liked the cream. I used it on a cut I had on my leg. It helped soothe that horrible itch you get, and the cut did heal a little faster too. The Calendula Cream DOES NOT have a medical smell which makes me very happy. I can’t tell you how much I hate that smell.”

“My husband has some really dry spots on his elbows, so he was the first to try the cream. He has been using the Calendula Cream for a short time now. (Not as regular as he could, but still using it.) It seems to be helping. Then my 9-year-old has had a few dry spots we have been applying it to also. It comes in a tube and goes on like a lotion. It is not greasy feeling.”

(two sections) 1. Keep Infections Away: “Calendula marigolds bolster your immune system’s protective powers by activating a special class of infection-fighting white blood cells. They also boast antibiotic and antifungal compounds that kill germs, destroying bugs from staph to E.coli- and wiping out fungal infections, such as candida, in as little as three days. Apply a 2%-5% calendula ointment topically (such as Boiron Calendula Ointment).” 2. Speed Healing: “Got a small scrape, cut or burn? Gently rubbing it with calendula lotion will help it heal almost twice as fast, research suggests. ‘Calendula contains caffeic acid, which repairs the connective tissue that holds skin together,’ says ethnobotanist Chris Kilham(medicinehunter.com). IT also kills surface germs to prevent infection, and its anti-inflammatory triterpenoids soothe the pain and swelling of sunburn! One option: Boiron First Aid Calendula Lotion.”
